Should a leader play the role of a team coach?

Should a leader play the role of a team coach? Gartner research shows that employees who are led by coaching-effective leaders:

  • are 40% more engaged,
  • show 38% more voluntary effort,
  • are 3 times more likely to be HiPos and 20% more likely to stay at their organizations. These leaders are called Connectors.

They take an employee-centric coaching approach and use their network to meet employees’ development needs. Connectors don’t presume to coach their team members on everything. Instead, they guide their team to other people and resources, so as to expose them to the best opportunities to acquire new experience, knowledge, skills, and capabilities at the time of need. In today’s digital age, the connectors’ positive impact on teams is simply priceless. I’ll share more in my next posts.
